SMS Monitoring.. An involuntary slap

Monitoring is an Invasion of Privacy

Monitoring is an Invasion of Privacy

Lets face it, who hasn’t recieved an SMS spotlighting our politicians, perhaps not in the best of ways. Sardars, Pathans and Politicians too, we all love to discuss them :D . But apparentlyour governement decided not to be treated as such and wants to listen in on our conversations to see if we were laughing at them. Enter SMS monitoring….

By monitoring SMS, the general idea was to curb the flood of SMSes spreading “BAD” impressions as to the government. The government through the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) asked all the major telecom operators to monitor SMS and emails to provide records relevant to thier customers.

Before any questions as to our freedom of speech kicked in, this scheme got a kick from PTA( Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) itself. i quote from the PTA website “PTA has neither formed any regulations nor it intends to monitor any personal communication including mobile phones, emails and SMS.” It also turns out that telecom companies in Pakistan are as yet unable to perform such monitoring as well. Live on Freedom of Speech…..

Further Details pertaining the PTA announcement could found here.
