New Islamabad Airport

Looking at Karachi and Lahore airports Islamabad badly needs a bigger and better airport and ofcourse isloo people need to get rid of this old airport at chaklala with annoying jerky buses , cold terminals and chaotic securtiy check system . The New Islamabad International airport will replace the existing one located in Rawalpindi. This airport is located in Fateh Jang, which is 30km south-west of the city. The construction had already started in 2008 . Sources say that this project will be completed in 2011 or 2012 and is going to cost around Rs 24 Billion .

This new airport is designed to cater around nine million people annually .It is said to be the second one in asia for cargo handling after hongkong airport. Its is expected to handle 100, 000 tones of cargo linking motorway1 and 2 which will add the commercial activities of the area . There is going to be a special parking for hijacked airplanes too . This new airport is going to be much bigger than karachi and lahore airport as it area is 3200 acre or 13square km.

The new Islamabad airport is named as Benazir International airport in memory of the assassinated former prime minister. The current Islamabad International Airport was named after Bhutto by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gillani on Friday, 21 June 2008.There is a controversy over naming the new airport . Some say its should be Fatima Jinnah airport or Abdul Qadeer airport or Sir syed ahmed khan airport Or simply Islamabad airport .

The design of the new air port is on Islamic geometric  patterns with intelligent roof to conserve water , it is designed to use natural daylight for main lighting and sun shaders to cut the use air conditioners which brings down the use of electricity and its front portal is elongated so that it gives a better  view thus keeping in mind its environment and sustainability . The international and domestic hall is under one main roof with a trapazoid Cantiliever .
