COD4 in Pakistan

Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first person shooter game which is one of the most liked game in Pakistan. It’s impact is exactly the same as that of Call Of Duty 1.  And do you know what is common in both of these ? Both were developed by Infinity Wards. Rest parts were not. Even people go for COD 4 when they are given option to choose from COD 4 and COD 5. It got rating 9.4 by IGN gamers. Why was it a big success ?  Well answer is, due to drama, cool but fictional storyline, action, modern warfare and most importantly GRAPHICS which even defeated COD 5. This game is available on Mac OS X, PlayStation 3, Wii, andXbox 360 apart from Microsoft Windows.

Story of  COD 4 revolves around Imran Zakhaev, the leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party and the main antagonist of the game.  Initially he is assumed dead because according to Captain Price, he killed him himself few years ago. But Imran’s Arab ally Khaled Al-Asad, the commander of the revolutionary forces in the Arab, leads the SAS and US forces to him. The player assumes the role of a young SAS member named “Soap” MacTavish for most of the game. Sergeant Paul Jackson is part of USMC 1st Force Recon deployed to the Middle East, and the player controls Jackson’s character during five levels of Act 1. This game has few elements of drama as well. Like nuclear explosion that takes place in an Arab country when you are playing as a US marine, and you die. In last Act, which is a joint mission of SAS and USMC, you play as ‘Soap’ and achieve your objective of disarming Nukes that are destined to destroy USA asusual. I personally liked its ending alot though. Captain Price, a character who is popular in WW2 games, throws a gun towards your character. Then your character has to shoot Imran who is about to kill you but distracted by *Good* Russians. And the sad part is, Captain Price dies in the end. *tears*

It got popularity in Pakistan not because of its single player campaign but because of its multiplayer gameplay. Before COD 4, internet cafe were full of mostly Mohaa, CS and DOTA gamers. But when it came, it actually almost made Mohaa disappear. Idea of perks, big and awesome maps, advanced weapons which can be upgraded and most importantly support in form of Air Strike, Helipcopter and UAV made Pakistani gamers so crazy about it that they actually started  promoting it. Now whenever you go in a tournament, you will always find it. After the development of broadband services, network companies like Wateen and Micronet actually launched servers for this particular game. Now LinkDotNet is also thinking of launching one for it after watching the response of gamers. Cod4 is also popular on Xbox Live.

There are few drawbacks too. Unlike Mohaa and CS, you should have a nice graphics card and good processor to enjoy it. Moreover in this game, developers didnt focus much on the violence and gore. There is no fun in killing Russians. But overall, it was one of the greatest hits by Activision. And if you havent played it already, please go and buy it. Because soon Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be released and you will not be interested in playing COD 4 anymore.
