Cinepax-Rawalpindi

Cinepax, the first nationally branded chain of multiplex cinemas in Pakistan, after attaining a major market in Rawalpindi, has signed an Agreement with City District Government Karachi to open 2 multiplex cinemas on different locations in Karachi. Cinepax, with the support and collaboration of CDGK plans to invest $10m to construct 2 multiplex cinemas, one at Kashmir Road and another at Safari Park, each with 5-7 screens, food courts, gaming and other entertainment areas filled with sporting activities. It is also believed that another cinema just like the one in Rawalpindi’s Jinnah Park is going to be established in Islamabad’s Fatima Jinnah Park. Cinepax is targeting the larger cities of Pakistan : Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Hyderabad. Cinepax’s initial 5 year build-out plan is for the development of 120 screens.

The first Cinepax cinema in Rawalpindi opened its doors for cine gores on Eid-ul-Fittar Day on October 14, 2007. Mohabtan sachian and Khuda kay liye were first released films at this cinema. At point of its opening, it was believed to be the Pakistan’s biggest cinema with 5 screens and has ability to accommodate 1400 viewers. And yes, it totally was a success because people who used to miss cinema atlast found something where they can enjoy movies with their families. Main purpose of this project was to show Hollywood movies within a month of their release and also the promotion of movies of Lollywood.

They also displayed Fast and the Furious 4, Wanted and Transformers 2 which, i can say without any doubts, were the biggest hits. Even after one week of their release, people were so mad to watch these movies twice that many of them had to watch other movies or return to their homes sadly because of House full. Cinepax also opened a gaming zone in their basement. One can play games on PC, Wii, Xbox 360 and even PS3. It attracted alot of attention of online and LAN gamers and they also conducted tournaments. They also showed the Pakistani matches of T20 and final football match of champions league.

So point is, no Terminator 4, no Origins-Wolverine and now i seriously doubt that they will display G.I.Joe and Inglorious Basterds because they dont have much ‘room‘ for English movies anymore. Checkout the Cinepax site and their coming soon movies, just one English movie there which is G.I.Joe and it should be displayed already. They tend to display Indian Movies which are harming our culture but they are reluctant to show Hollywood movies which a person enjoys and at least they aren’t affecting us THAT much. They do but not that much. Movies like ‘Dostana’ were one of the greatest hits. People were so mad about it though it injected a wrong idea into our society. Families watched this movie. And i am damn sure many of the children would’ve asked, ‘ Mom, what is GAY ?‘.Though i agree in Hollywood movies, there are explicit scenes which are not to be shown to children and yes, Cinepax authority censors the movies too but a movie totally based on this ‘GAY’ idea can be just like a virus to a body(our country). Some people say it is prejudice to not like Indian movies and stuff but i think they are wrong because why are Indians allowed to boycott us, why cant we do the same? It is not fault of people running cinepax, they do what people demand.
