Eid In NWFP- Roza In Punjab,Baluchistan,Sindh. Where is Pakistan?

by usman zahid on September 19, 2009

Tv channels just announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated ineidmubarak 222x300 Eid In NWFP Roza In Punjab,Baluchistan,Sindh. Where is Pakistan? NWFP tomorrow. Whereas in Punjab,Baluchistan and Sindh today was 28th of Ramadan. So this means either people in NWFP are celebrating Eid one day before rest of Pakistan or (in case moon is not sighted on 29th of ramadan in rest of provinces) two days difference :o . Well this is not something new. Every year we celebrate Eid on different days. Question is WHY? Is NWFP not part of Pakistan? If someone saw the moon of Ramadan in Peshawar or its suburbs why dont the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of other regions accept the shahadat of moon sighting from NWFP region and announce beginning of Ramadan in whole of Pakistan. Why this division in provinces of Pakistan? Everyday people say we should be united to solve problems faced by Pakistan whereas we are not even united during the month of Ramadan. Some people say people in NWFP are following moon sightings of Saudi Arab. Well i think that is a nice idea as Saudi Arab is the Centre of Muslim world. Someone told me that Eid is celebrated on a single day in United States of America, meaning all the states of US celebrate eid on same day. Now compare the size of US and Pakistan. When they can celebrate eid on a single day then why cant we? I am unable to come to a reasonable answer to this question. Maybe you people can help me find one. May Allah unite us in every aspect of life. Ameen

P.S Eid Mubarak to Everyone

When the ulema of NWFP announced that the moon is sighted then why do mufti muneed deny it?? Is he the only qualified mulla or he don’t think the mullas of NWFP as qualified??

Salman Asghar September 19, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Yaar , technically NWFP govt is right. according to sharia, when Jam me Ghafeer that is 30 or more people from one place has sighted the moon together there testimony is enough evidence.

AOA friends ..well Islam says when u find a moon go for fast and go for Eid thts all….now if some one imitates saudi arabia then its totally wrong because its not said that when saudia finds moon then pakistanalso go for Eid….actually if u gona celebrate Eid with Saudia then also offer prayers at thier timings..its possible ???no its not..becuse there is a diff of timing …the earth is not flat where we can observe Eid at the same day…but pakistan is not so big that we can not celebrate eid on a single day….so pakistan should show unity in this regard…i think if peshawar offers some shahadats on moon sight then the central commiteee shoult take it in account….its totally mishandled by the pakistan government…they should take all provinces in confidence…they can make 4 commitees ..each sitting in each province and a central at islamabd…the central should decide on the response from the provencial commites…if it comes heavy shahdats from any province then go for Eid….yeh meri opinion hy..har koe ikhtilaf kar sakta hy …….Allah hum sab ko behtar janany ke taufeeq dy Ameen.. Allah Hafiz

n i dont think we can celebrate Eid with Saudi Arab !! thats not possible…

farhan naseer September 19, 2009 at 3:51 pm

Don’t make it a political issue. Just take it as a cultural aspect of NWFP.

az September 19, 2009 at 4:24 pm

I agree with bilal farooq khan..
n @farhan wat kindv culture is this?? without moon sighting we start fasting and celebrate eid??? (n yes, if moon is sighted in nwfp– then surely we should fast and celebrate eid accordingly) but saying that its a cultural thing is so wrong– its religion n u cant change it just for the heck of it.. :)

The sad thing is they claim to have about 20 shahadats!! It was very depressing to see them lying through their teeth!! I mean what right does the Govt there has on supporting this absurd idea?!

well…wen the moon is sighted and after that there is no eid or roza, den dats a big fault!!

why dont mufit muneeb believe on their shahdat??
secondly, mufti muneeb didnt even try to see the moon!! atleast beth to jata!!

well there are obsevatories in NWFP too and none of them confirmed the sighting. in our society giving a wrong shahadat isnt something uncommon, so the shahadats need to be scrutinized in light of scientific observations.

moreover the pukhtoons have the urge to associate themselves with the pukhtoons in afghanistan who in turn celebrate with saudi arabia. cosidering the concept of lunar calendar which is based on the geographical position of the country, we cannot celebrate eid with saudi arabia.

the only logical solution which comes to mind, is to dissolve the root-e-hillal committee and give the authority to SPARCO, which should base its decision on scientific data and observations.

@ above

Yes, but, our religious scholars seem to have a serious problem with science!!

Who else would know the pain more then me belonging to that province. My two Aitekaaf’s when like this. Last days were all spent in doubt and Lailat-ul-Qadar for which we were sitting couldn’t be found. It seems that certain elements are hell bent to divide this nation. Some points here:

* The committee wasn’t even sitting, so if a person would like to inform someone about sighting of moon how will they?

* Secondly, this time in parts of Lahore DG Khan and Punjab Tribal belt also celebrated Eid on Sunday. Previously it was the people of NWFP to be blamed

* Thirdly, the weather was Sunny on Saturday night, and chances of sighting of moon was easy.

Im quite hopeful when the old retires the new generation would come up with a renewed vigor to solve contentious issues.

Let’s hope that happens!
