Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi
A flurry of great shots and exquisite volleying by Aisam ul Haq led to the vicotry of the Pak-Swiss duo against Roger Federer and his Swiss partner Marco Chiudinelli in straight sets at the Basel Open in the Swiss city on Tuesday 3rd Nov, ‘09. Aisam was being partnered by the Swiss player James Cerritani.
The King of tennis was clearly troubled by the power serving and controlled volleying of Aisam and his partner which could be seen by the unforced errors he committed. With this victory of 6-4, 6-3, Aisam and Cerritani advanced to the quarter finals of the 2.6 million dollars ATP tournament.
There were moments of brilliance by Fed-xpress and his partner with a few classy passing shots by Federer, but the serve and volley technique of their oponents proved too strong at the end. The best moment of the match for me was the last point in which Aisam served and then produced two beautiful volleys to force an error and take the match.
With this victory Aisam has proved to the whole world that Pakistan indeed has true talent. Unlike India whose reality is nothing as compared to the hype it creates. Clearly Aisam is doing more wonders on the tennis circuit than Sania Mirza is. We call to every Pakistani to recognize the potential of Pakistan and appreciate it. We hope and pray that Aisam goes on to win this tournament and achieves many accolades in the future.
Aisam and Cerritani will now face the tournament’s number seed Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in the quarters.
